I recently completed my PhD studying the cooperative optical phenomena in strongly interacting Rydberg gases under the supervision of Prof. C. Adams, working on the photon blockade experiment to develop a photonic phase gate for quantum information. My research has focused on performing electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) on cold Rybderg ensembles, demonstrating the first optical non-linearity due to the long-range Rydberg dipole-dipole interactions which causes the optical response of a single atom to be modified by the presence of its neighbours (Phys. Rev. Lett. 105, 193603 (2010)). My thesis is available here.
I am currently working as a post-doc on atom interferometry using an inductively coupled ring in the atom-optics group the University of Strathclyde.
